Expression systems built around your crop

Tailored promoter development

We design and validate bespoke crop promoters with the strength, tissue and condition specificity your trait needs, built on large-scale SuRE™ measurement and yours to own.

What it involves

A trait is only as good as the promoter that drives it. The right promoter expresses your gene at the level you need, in the right tissue and under the right condition. The wrong one wastes a valuable gene. Off-the-shelf and viral promoters like CaMV 35S rarely give crops that precision, and reusing the same one across a construct invites homology-dependent silencing.

Building a promoter to specification is hard. The elements that set strength, tissue and condition specificity are difficult to read from sequence, and combining them into one compact, well-behaved promoter is harder still.

Annogen develops that promoter tailored for you. Using SuRE™, we measure large libraries of promoters, enhancers and their variants directly in cells from your crop, then combine and refine the strongest elements into candidates that match your target expression profile, from native, gene-pool-derived designs to fully synthetic ones. Every candidate is validated by measurement, not predicted.

Because we control how a promoter is built, we can design toward your regulatory route as well as your trait. Where you are aiming for the EU’s new-genomic-techniques category 1 (NGT1), for plants that could also have arisen through conventional breeding, we can restrict the design to native, gene-pool sequences and a bounded set of edits, rather than the foreign elements, such as viral promoters, that would place a product in the GMO track.

You bring the crop, the trait and the target gene. We deliver a focused set of bespoke promoter candidates, ready to take into plant testing and yours to own: native, novel and built for the job, rather than adapted from a well-worn part.

Benefits

Data-backed candidate selection
Faster, iterative route to transformation
Built around your germplasm and trait context

Applications

Promoter variant screening

Quantify how variants and regulatory sequences shift expression, crop yield and disease resistance.

Large-scale dataset generation

Generate functional datasets for research, AI/ML, or further candidate selection.

Dedicated promoter development

Develop proprietary promoter or regulatory element candidates for a defined crop trait, supporting both EMS selection and targeted genome editing programs.

How we Work

What a project looks like depends on the crop, trait and candidate sequence space. Typically, it involves five steps:

1. Define the expression profile, your trait requires.
2. Assess available datasets specifically for your crop or trait.
3. Design and test candidates with SuRE™ in a plant-based system.
4. Refine and re-test a second round where needed.
5. Validate top candidates against your criteria.

Supporting Platforms

SuRE™

SuRE™ enables large-scale functional screening of promoters and other regulatory sequences. For crop breeders, it compares candidates in parallel to measure regulatory activity, reducing a large candidate space to a practical, experimentally supported set before plant validation.

How many sequences can you test in a single experiment?
How is a project structured (work packages, go/no-go points)?
Can you run a focused / targeted screen instead of genome-wide?
Can you test larger deletions and combinations of mutations (as an editing roadmap)?
What happens to my sequences and data after a project?
